Half day MTB tour on rural dirt and paved roads mostly flat with some short climbs and descents
After picking you up at your hotel or abnb in Oaxaca City at the agreed time, we will drive approximately 35 minutes to the starting point of the tour, which can be in Monte Alban or in Santa Maria Atzompa.
*Starting in Monte Alban: This option is recommended when you want to visit the most important archaeological site in Oaxaca. Once we arrive at Monte Alban you will have enough time to visit it while our guides prepare the bicycles (entrance fees and guide in Monte Alban are not included in the cost of the tour). Once you have finished your tour in Monte Alban, we will start the bike tour. The first part is a descent on the main road that leads to Monte Alban (This first part is not done in high tourist season for safety reasons). The descent is quite fast, so it is not recommended for people with little experience. There is a lot you can do afterwards without exposing yourself.
*Starting in Santa María Atzompa: Atzompa is a town of artisans, famous not only for its green ceramic products, but also for the use of ancestral techniques in ceramics that have been maintained since pre-Hispanic times. If you wish, you can visit the local handicrafts market while the guides prepare the bicycles. Once prepared, we will begin the bike tour. The first part of the tour is flat on paved roads, then we will cross some towns in the area on dirt and paved rural roads with small ascents and descents perfect for those who like to make some physical effort.
At some strategic points we will make stops to rehydrate, eat fruit and continue the tour. If there is interest in visiting a local wood carving workshop (Alebrijes) we will head to San Antonio Arrazola, here you can visit a local museum to admire and learn about the history of the alebrijes, you can also purchase the figure that you like at a fair price. If you are not interested in the wooden figures, we will continue through some hills where you can enjoy panoramic views and enjoy the tranquility of the area until we reach the next point of interest, the Ex-convent of Cuilapam where you will be able to appreciate an unfinished architectural complex dating from the end of the 16th century (On special occasions access may be closed to the public).
After visiting this interesting site, the last part of the tour begins. We will cross some neighborhoods of Cuilapam and then ride on dirt roads that pass through farmland to reach Zaachila where we will enjoy its rich and famous typical Oaxacan gastronomy, as well as the delicious natural fruit ice-creams that give name to this tour "las nieves" (the ice-cream tour).
The return to the city is done in our support vehicle and takes approximately 40 min. depending on traffic.
Después de pasar a su hotel o abnb en la ciudad de Oaxaca a la hora acordada, conduciremos 35 minutos aproximadamente al punto de inicio del tour que puede ser en Monte Albán o en Santa María Atzompa.
*Iniciando en Monte Albán: Esta opción se recomienda cuando se quiere visitar el sitio arqueológico más importante de Oaxaca. Al llegar a Monte Albán tendrán tiempo suficiente para visitarlo mientras nuestros guías preparan las bicicletas (las entradas y guía en Monte Albán no están incluidos en el costo del tour). Una vez terminado su recorrido, iniciaremos el tour en bicicleta, la primera parte es una bajada sobre el camino principal que llega a Monte Albán (Esta primera parte no se hace en temporada alta de turismo por seguridad). El descenso es bastante rápido por lo tanto no es recomendable para personas con poca experiencia. Hay mucho que podrán hacer después sin exponerse.
*Iniciando en Santa María Atzompa: Atzompa es un pueblo de artesanos, famoso no solo por sus artesanías de barro verde, sino también por el uso de técnicas ancestrales en la cerámica que se han mantenido desde la época prehispánica. Si lo deseas podrás visitar su mercado de artesanías local mientras los guías preparan las bicicletas. Una vez preparados, comenzaremos el recorrido en bicicleta. La primera parte del tour es plana, después se cruzan algunas poblaciones de la zona por caminos rurales de terracería y pavimentados con pequeños ascensos y descensos perfectos para los que les gusta hacer algo de esfuerzo físico.
En algunos puntos estratégicos haremos paradas para hidratarse, comer frutas y poder continuar el recorrido. Si hay interés de visitar un taller de tallado de figuras de madera (Alebrijes) continuaremos hacia San Antonio Arrazola, aquí se puede visitar un museo local para admirar y conocer la historia de los alebrijes, además podrás adquirir la figura que más te guste a un precio justo. Si no hay interés por las figuras de madera, continuaremos sobre algunas colinas donde se podrán apreciar vistas panorámicas y disfrutar de la tranquilidad de la zona hasta llegar al siguiente punto de interés, el Ex convento de Cuilapam. Aquí podrás apreciar un conjunto arquitectónico inconcluso que data de finales del siglo XVI. (En ocasiones especiales el acceso puede estar cerrado al público).
Después de visitar este sitio interesante inicia la última parte del recorrido. Cruzaremos algunos barrios de Cuilapam y después sobre caminos de terracería que pasan entre terrenos de cultivo para llegar a Zaachila donde disfrutaremos de su rica y famosa gastronomía típica oaxaqueña, además de las deliciosas nieves de frutas naturales que le dan nombre a este tour“ las nieves”.
El regreso a la ciudad se hace en nuestro vehículo de apoyo y es de aproximadamente 40 min. dependiendo del tráfico.
